KAIST has a distinguished history as a leading center for advancing research and education in science and engineering, and its contributions to technology management education and research are similarly well-established. The KAIST College of Business has been instrumental in Korea's shift from a labor-intensive economy to a technology-driven economy.

Technology management aims to detect and predict future technological changes, foster innovative ideas at the national and corporate levels, and integrate product planning, research and development management, and commercialization elements to enhance corporate competitiveness. This process is similar to national science and technology innovation policies.

Recently, Korean companies have gone beyond creating technology-based competitive advantages to establishing and investing in technology management strategies to compete on equal terms with advanced countries in areas such as deep tech and new market development. The government is also setting and focusing investment on 12 strategic technology areas, including semiconductors/displays, aerospace/marine, artificial intelligence, and quantum/quantum computing, which you are likely aware of.

This reflects a determination to respond to the acceleration and discontinuity of technological changes and to seize future technologies. Therefore, it is time to effectively acquire, manage, and utilize technology, particularly in the deep tech industry, to accelerate technology commercialization and the promotion of new industries.

The KAIST Department of Business and Technology Management(BTM) strongly recognizes the urgent need for technology management professionals to promote the deep tech industry in our country. To address this, we aim to implement a global-level, third-generation of technology management that goes beyond mere catching-up and meets the needs of the post-catch-up era. Additionally, through our curriculum, we will provide diverse knowledge and conduct research to help you expand integrated thinking in advanced industrial technology fields and build comprehensive innovation capabilities.
